Not all Sahara tours are the same. Here's why experienced Morocco travelers choose this one-way route over a return trip.
Start in Marrakech, finish in Fes. Cover more of Morocco without repeating a single road. Ideal if your itinerary includes both cities.
The drive north to Fes passes through cedar forests and Berber highlands — scenery that Marrakech-return tours never reach. Day 3 is genuinely different.
Drop-off at your accommodation in Fes by late afternoon. Enough time to freshen up and discover the UNESCO-listed medina before dinner.
700 km transport, 2 hotel nights, 4 meals, camel ride, full Sahara camp experience. Booking this separately would cost three times as much.
Walk through Ait Ben Haddou — a UNESCO World Heritage kasbah and filming location for Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and The Mummy.

The "Hollywood of Africa." Visit the 19th-century Kasbah Taourirt and the Atlas Film Studios. Lunch stop at a local restaurant (own expense).

Arrive in the dramatic Dades Valley in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight at your hotel with views over the gorge. Night 1.
Visit the spectacular Todra Gorges near Tinghir — towering 300-metre canyon walls carved by a crystal-clear river. Walk the gorge floor and photograph the dramatic light.

Breakfast at camp, then camel ride back to Merzouga village. Freshen up before the drive north toward Fes begins.
The Day-3 drive to Fes is unique — passing through the Ziz Valley, Midelt, Azrou's cedar forests (home to Barbary macaques), and the charming alpine town of Ifrane. Landscapes the return-to-Marrakech tours never see.
Drop-off at your accommodation in Fes — Morocco's oldest imperial city and home to the world's oldest university. Your Marrakech to Fes Sahara adventure is complete. Welcome to Fes!

We chose the luxury tent and it was worth every euro. A private bathroom in the Sahara — I never expected that! The whole route from Marrakech through the desert to Fes was incredibly well-organized. Our guide knew every story about every stop.
As a solo traveler I was nervous but the team was professional and warm from day one. The camel ride at sunset was emotional — I actually teared up. Arriving in Fes at the end felt like the perfect closing to an epic Moroccan chapter.
